Frequently Asked Questions
I’m Kathryn, and I provide good old-fashioned tech support to those who don’t understand or share my passion for technology. Here are some of the questions I get asked most frequently.
FAQ
What experience do you have?
I have nearly 40 years of experience in the IT industry, working for government departments, corporate businesses and myself.
Will you come to me to fix my IT or tech?
Yes, after an initial email or phone call to discuss the problem, I will visit your home or office to fix any tech or IT issues you have. However, certain problems can be fixed remotely, via Zoom or over the phone. I will always let you know the best option for you.
How much do you charge?
I charge £50 per hour, regardless of the issue. You pay for my time, not per device or problem. Parts not included.
What is Gadgetitis?
It’s the overwhelming feeling of irritation, frustration or exasperation you get when trying to fathom out your new gadget or latest piece of technology. If you (or someone you know) are baffled by your tech or feel like your gadgets are out to get you, you’ve got ‘Gadgetitis’!
What’s the cure?
Give me a call!
Does it matter if I’ve got Apple or Microsoft?
I am happy to work on any device or operating system and can get software working across all platforms.
What’s best, a PC, a laptop or a Chromebook?
It totally depends on your needs. A laptop is portable and gives you flexibility, but a desktop has a larger screen and is easier to navigate. A Chromebook is great if you use Google, but it lacks the functionality of a laptop. I am always happy to advise what’s best for your needs and budget, including iPads and tablets.
Will my data be safe?
The first thing I do when fixing any tech is back up your data and move it to another safe device. Don’t forget, you need to back up your data regularly and definitely before we work together. Backing up data is your ultimate responsibility.
Will my software work on a new system?
I will always check and advise whether your existing software can be used on any new tech systems.
What do I do if I've been scammed, hacked or experienced online fraud?
If you’ve received a scam email/text or think you’ve been hacked or targeted by online fraudsters, please contact me ASAP. I can offer initial advice, then point you in the direction of the Wiltshire Bobby Van Trust or the Police Cyber Crime Department.
Do I need antivirus on my PC or Mac?
Yes, antivirus is essential, especially if you do online banking. Always get the best you can afford, it’s money well spent! I can always advise the best option for you.
Can I just book an hour of your time?
Yes, especially if you live within a 10-mile radius of Trowbridge. I am happy to travel further, but I will charge for petrol.
Can I book regular, monthly or ongoing business tech support?
Yes. I am very happy to be your external tech department on a regular or ad-hoc basis. Contact me to discuss your needs.

Yes, I can set up and troubleshoot smart TVs, home tech, and most gadgets, iPads, tablets and Alexa.
Do you have any password advice?
